Robin Blackledge is a multidisciplinary artist & designer with a passion for exploring how we digest, utilise and evolve alongside new technology. He focuses his attention across several fields, working simultaneously on personal practise & research, art & design commissioning & consultancy (particularly within the health sector) and lead artist projects where he works as creative artist & producer.
With more than 20 years of professional experience, robin began his creative life as a performance artist, creating ‘live works’ which culminated in a body of work which fusing physical theatre, film/video and durational interactive installations. He toured extensively nationally & throughout Europe, collaborating with many artists, collectives and performers, including Robert Wilson, Yvette Boszick, Ab Rogers design, Urban Strawberry Launch, Blissbody, Urban Vimbuza and many many more.
In his more recent work that requires close collaboration with architects, design teams and building users, he draws upon his experience of performance and interactivity to interpret & enhance the fabric of the built environment, aiming to create a dialogue between the users of the building, it’s function, injecting elements of surprise, play and animation.
In recent years, his interest in the health & medical sectors has resulted in a growing series of projects where he has been responsible for creative visioning, design- led arts commissions and way-finding solutions.
In addition, he has completed a three year digital arts residency in a prominent London Hospice, collaborating with users on legacy projects.
This research and experience now gives him a rounded view of the healthcare system. He is now tasked to create artworks & design for hospitals alongside his own research, with the added experience of viewing the healthcare system through the eyes of the user and their varying physical and emotional journeys on which they travel.
